WorldPak uses the PASS clearance method for most of our shipments. PASS
is supported for low value items which are being shipped direct to customers.
The packages are cleared by Peace Bridge Brokers on behalf of the customers
receiving the packages. PASS packages are charged standard rates for duties
and taxes based on their Canadian point of entry and their Canadian destination.
PASS charges these fees back to the originating company.
If a client would rather that their individual customers pick up the costs
of Canadian duties and taxes at the point of delivery, they can use either
Purolator's ExpressCheque or Canada Post's E14 method. In each case, the
customer who has purchased the goods is required to pay their delivery person
the cost of duties and taxes before their package is released to them. ExpressCheque
packages clear quicker, but to use them, a customer must be able to produce
a list of all possible SKUs for customs rating by PBB. Canada Post's E14 service
is easier to use in that all that is required is a general description for each SKU,
but service can be slow during the holiday rush season.
Commercial clients who ship to resellers are also supported by WorldPak.
LTL and FTL shipments are cleared based on manifests generated by either
WorldPak or the client. St. Gobain is a client who uses an automated
commercial clearance process with WorldPak.
Yamato is an example of other clearance methods we use. Yamato is a
courier company for packages bound for Japan. We provide Yamato manifests for packages
bound for Japan. Yamato then clears the packages for entry and arranges
for their delivery.
