Returns service is a unique product currently being used by
Abercrombie and Fitch as well as Guthy Renker. The service gives end consumers
an address to which they can return packages to and provides a way for shipping clients to
quickly see what returns are pending and what they need to do to resolve
customer complaints.
With returns, packages are opened in a Purolator warehouse and their contents
are inventoried via one of WorldPak's websites. We use data from when the package
originally entered Canada to record exactly what is being returned. The
return data is then made available to shipping clients on a password protected
section of the website, allowing them to see which items have been returned and
for what reasons. Refunds or replacements can then be sent to their customers.
Abercrombie and Fitch use a further modification of this system which
automatically emails them the customer name, order and SKU information which was generated by the
returns center.
Items are returned after they have cleared Canadian Customs are eligible for
a refund of the duties and taxes, paid when the package entered Canada. Companies which have
a large amount of returns can batch up their returned items and submit a consolidated
application for duty and tax refunds. Duty and tax refunds can save a company
hundreds of thousands of dollars every year, returning back to them money that
they otherwise would have written off.
